FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ'S)

Our staff veterinarians have written information on a variety of pet health care topics. If the following FAQ's don't answer your questions and your pet is a patient of Veterinary Associates Animal Clinic, please feel free to contact us via e-mail or telephone (327-8554) to request information.

If you are trying to find specific information about a pet illness or condition, the following websites have excellent resources:

IMPORTANT:
As always, your vet is the best source of information about how any illness may affect your pet and its proper treatment.

When Does My Puppy or Kitten Need to Get Shots?
Puppies and kittens should begin their vaccination series at six weeks of age and receive vaccinations and a physical exam every 3-4 weeks thereafter until approximately 16 weeks of age. During your first visit, our staff will explain what vaccinations are recommended and will give you a recommended schedule of health care specifically tailored to your pet.

What is Kennel Cough?
Kennel Cough is an upper respiratory disease similar to the human cold (but not contagious to humans!) Dogs usually contract Kennel Cough when they're exposed to a large number of pets, such as at a kennel, grooming salon or dog show.

What should I feed my pet?
Pets normally can use any brand name food over the counter at your local Wal-Mart, etc.  There are a number of "specialty" foods out there as well, but they generally cost more and are harder to find.  Sometimes your animal may require a special formula to help with a particular problem.  When in doubt, consult your vet and they will assist you.
